My background is as an analytical chemist, and colour scientist. I have combined these by looking at coloured effluents, and the analysis and treatment of these effluents.I also have an interest in the environmental effect these effluents have.

One specific project I have been involved in looked at industry, particularly in Bangladesh as part of an interdisciplinary team. We looked at how we could manage the pollution caused by small-medium scale industry, their colouration processes and the effluents they were generating, to better understand the nature of these effluents, and how we can mitigate against the effects of these in the environment, whether this is by recycling and recovery or effluent treatments. This research requires techniques such as gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, molecular spectroscopy, and atomic spectroscopy.
